CASE STUDY:
Installation of Acoustic Pod in London Showroom

Project Overview:

Drum Installations LTD was commissioned to carry out the installation of a sample acoustic pod in a London showroom as part of a major government workplace project.

The pod was installed to allow government stakeholders and project decision-makers to assess the product’s acoustic performance, design quality, and functionality before moving forward with a potential large-scale order of over 200 acoustic pods.

Our team was responsible for the full assembly of the acoustic pod, ensuring it was presented professionally for the demonstration period, followed by safe dismantling and return to the manufacturer.

Acoustic Pod Installation in London:

Acoustic pods are becoming increasingly popular in modern offices, government buildings, and collaborative workspaces as they provide private meeting areas within open-plan environments. For this project, the pod was installed within a showroom in London, allowing stakeholders to experience the product in a real-world setting before committing to a large procurement order.

The installation required precision assembly and careful handling to ensure the pod was built exactly to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Our installation team carried out the following:
-
Unpacking and inspection of all pod components
-
Assembly of the acoustic pod structure and frame
-
Installation of acoustic panels and internal fittings
-
Ensuring the pod was aligned and securely installed within the showroom
-
Final quality checks to ensure the unit was ready for demonstration
Temporary Installation & Removal

The acoustic pod remained installed in the showroom for three days while the product demonstration and evaluation took place.
Following the review period, Drum Installations returned to site to carry out the complete dismantling of the pod.

The removal process included:
-
Careful disassembly of the pod structure
-
Protection of acoustic panels and components
-
Repackaging of all elements
-
Preparing the pod for transport back to the manufacturer

The entire process was carried out efficiently to ensure the pod could be reused for future demonstrations or projects.

The Result

The successful installation allowed the client to showcase the acoustic pod in a professional showroom environment, enabling stakeholders to assess the product’s performance before moving forward with a potential large-scale deployment.

Key outcomes included:
-
Professional acoustic pod installation in London
-
Support for a government procurement project
-
Demonstration unit successfully presented to stakeholders
-
Efficient disassembly and safe return to manufacturer
-
Preparation for a potential 200+ unit rollout
Winchester College, a prestigious independent school with a rich history, entrusted our team with a multifaceted project. The project encompassed two main components: the installation of acoustic baffles in St. Michael's Church and the refurbishment of two music rooms within the school. The objectives were to improve the acoustic environment of the church for various events and enhance the music learning spaces, creating an optimal learning environment for students. St. Michael's Church had long suffered from suboptimal acoustics for its diverse events, including concerts, lectures, and religious ceremonies. The reverberation time and sound reflections were issues that needed to be addressed. Additionally, the existing music rooms at Winchester College were showing signs of wear and tear, hindering the students' ability to practice and learn in an inspiring environment. For the acoustic challenges at St. Michael's Church, the customer designed and implemented a solution involving the installation of strategically placed acoustic baffles. These baffles were carefully suspended from the ceiling to reduce sound reflections, control reverberation, and improve sound quality within the church. They were designed to be unobtrusive and blend seamlessly with the church's aesthetics. In the case of the music rooms, we undertook a comprehensive refurbishment project. This involved acoustical improvements, updated soundproofing, new flooring, lighting, and modernised equipment. The goal was to create inspiring spaces where students could fully immerse themselves in their music education. St. Michael's Church: - Conducted a full site survey to feedback to the customer to ensure the design was correct and safe for the installation. - Created a metal structure within the Church's loft space to suspend the baffles in the safest way possible. - Carefully suspended the baffles at calculated heights and angles to achieve the desired acoustic and visual effect. Music Rooms Refurbishment: - Surveyed the existing conditions and identified areas in need of improvement. - Collaborated with the customer to develop a comprehensive refurbishment plan. - Implemented the plan, including acoustic panel installation, soundproofing, and the installation of new flooring, lighting, and equipment. The project yielded remarkable results, please see attached photos to find out! St. Michael's Church experienced a significant reduction in reverberation time, resulting in improved sound quality for various events. The refurbished music rooms provided students with inspiring, acoustically optimised spaces for their music education, enhancing their overall learning experience.
