The project involved the installation of over 30 acoustic walls and hundreds of acoustic rafts and baffles across various areas of the office. This was crucial for creating a productive and comfortable working environment by minimising noise distractions and enhancing sound quality in collaborative spaces. ​ Objective The primary goal was to design and install an effective acoustic treatment solution throughout the new office. This included reducing noise levels, managing sound reflections, and ensuring optimal acoustic performance across open-plan areas, meeting rooms, and collaboration spaces. The installation needed to be completed within a strict 6-week timeline to align with Sumo Digital’s move-in schedule. ​ Challenges The project presented several challenges. The sheer volume of acoustic elements—over 30 walls and hundreds of rafts and baffles—required meticulous coordination and planning. Different areas of the office had unique acoustic needs, demanding tailored solutions for various types of spaces. Coordinating with other ongoing construction and fit-out work required flexible scheduling and effective communication. Additionally, the acoustic solutions needed to integrate aesthetically with the office’s modern design while meeting high performance standards. ​ Approach Initial Consultation and Acoustic Assessment: We began with a detailed acoustic assessment of the office space to pinpoint areas needing noise reduction and sound management. Collaborating with Sumo Digital’s design team, we ensured the acoustic solutions aligned with both aesthetic and functional requirements. A customised plan was developed, specifying the types, quantities, and placements of acoustic walls, rafts, and baffles. ​ Design and Planning: Over 30 custom acoustic walls were designed for strategic placement in meeting rooms, open-plan areas, and communal spaces to optimise sound absorption and integration with the existing architecture. Hundreds of acoustic rafts and baffles were selected and designed, balancing high-performance acoustics with visual appeal. A detailed installation schedule was created, outlining daily and weekly milestones to complete the project within the 6-week timeframe. ​ Installation Process: Weeks 1-2: We started by installing acoustic walls in key areas such as meeting rooms and private offices. Each wall was precisely installed to maximise sound absorption and blend seamlessly with the existing structure. Weeks 3-4: Acoustic rafts were installed in open-plan areas, suspended from the ceiling to manage sound reflections and reduce overall noise levels. Coordination with on-site teams helped maintain a clean workspace and minimise disruptions. Weeks 5-6: The final phase involved adding acoustic baffles in high-traffic and communal areas. The baffles were arranged in aesthetically pleasing patterns that enhanced both acoustic performance and the office’s design.
